Biography

Glory

I should probably let Stuart write this, but I’ll give it a go.  I grew up in Lancaster, PA where my parents owned a motel.  Lancaster has changed a lot since I was small.  People used to come to see the Amish, now they come to shop at the outlets.  I am one year younger than Stuart (you do the math).  At the motel, we had a pony and a goat, plus we had the occasional chickens or ducks wandering around.  My grandfather had an incubator and would hatch eggs for the Amish farmer down the road.  I got to keep one.  Her name was Black Beauty and she laid green-shelled eggs.  Her favorite place was on the pony’s back.  My parents had always had dogs, but until I came along, they were not cat lovers.  My second cat was definitely my best friend from age 9 until I left for college.  I am responsible for the list of animals on Stuart’s bio.  He has come to, at least, like all the animals we have.  He also was not a cat person before me.

I ended up at West Chester University where I explored my independence more than academia.  That was, of course, where I met Stuart.  We were introduced by a mutual friend who knew I sang and wrote lyrics and that Stuart played guitar.  As it turned out, my lyrics went perfectly with his music and the rest is history.  My BA is in liberal studies, but most of my classes were in technical theater.  I took a break in there somewhere to get my practical nursing license, an offshoot which came from working as a personal care attendant for people with spinal cord injuries.

After five years together, Stuart and I wed.  A few years later, we had Gabriel.  When Gabriel was about 9 months old, I was watching a show about Jane Goodall and I mentioned to Stuart that I wanted to do what she does.  He said, “So do it.”  Three months later I returned to college at Millersville University in Lancaster in the biology program.  I finished with a BS in Biology.  Since I love school so much, we moved to North Carolina so I could pursue my Masters degree in Biology.  My thesis is on bite force in large macaws.  I’m hoping to continue for my PhD with research on tarantulas (They’re so misunderstood!).  Stuart and I are best friends.  We live our life in pursuit of happiness rather than the all mighty dollar.  We would both be miserable working jobs we didn’t enjoy.  Podcasting makes us happy.
